The Berlin public transport system ("BVG") is excellent and safe. A ticket for zones A and B is good for travel by bus, tram, U-Bahn, S-Bahn and the BVG ferries, heading toward one destination reached within two hours, within the Berlin city limits, and costs € 2,10. A 'Short-Journey ticket' (Kurzstrecke) ist valid for up to 6 stops on the bus or tram or up to 3 stops on a U-Bahn or S-Bahn train, and costs € 1.20.
(1): To reach us: take subway (U-Bahn) line U 9 or S-Bahn line S 1 to ,Rathaus Steglitz', change to bus X83 going west toward "Koenigin-Luise-Strasse/Clayallee" or "U-Bhf. Dahlem-Dorf"', get off at the "Museen Dahlem" stop. Then cross the street and walk back a few meters to house number 28/30.

(2): Take subway line U 3 to U-Bhf. "Dahlem-Dorf". When you come out of the station, you will see a little round plaza in front of the station. On the corner to your right, you'll see a restaurant. Cross over toward the restaurant, walking eastward along Königin-Luise-Strasse. You will pass shops, a beer garden, another row of shops, etc. Stay on this side of the street. The institute is at No. 28/30. The entrance to the building is not directly at the sidewalk; walk into the driveway and the entry is to your right.
coming from Tegel Airport:
Take bus No. 109 or X9 from the airport. Get off at ,Jakob-Kaiser-Platz'. The bus stops right at the underground station of the same name. Take the subway to ,Fehrbelliner Platz' (line U 7 heading toward RUDOW). At Fehrbelliner Platz, change to underground line U 3, going toward KRUMME LANKE. Get off at ,Dahlem-Dorf'.
When you come out of the station, you will see a little round plaza in front of the station. On the corner to your right, you'll see a restaurant. Cross over toward the restaurant, walking eastward along Königin-Luise-Strasse. You will pass shops, a beer garden, another row of shops, etc. Stay on this side of the street. coming from Schönefeld Airport:
You can get Bus 171 in front of the terminal. Take it to U-Bahn Station Rudow, where you go down into the subway and take the U7 line to Neukölln. There you change to the S41 line (the clockwise version of the Circle Line) and take that to the 'Heidelberger Platz' station on the U3 subway line. There take the U3 heading toward 'Krumme Lanke' to 'Dahlem-Dorf'.

As an alternative to the bus, you can take the covered walkway that leads you from the left from of the terminal building to the S-Bahn station. There take an S-Bahn train heading westward (consult the maps in the train to find a connection to the 'Heidelberger Platz' station on the U3 subway line). There take the U3 heading toward 'Krumme Lanke' to 'Dahlem-Dorf'.

coming from the motorway (from Hamburg/Rostock):
Head toward Wilmersdorf entering the A 100. Head toward Steglitz entering
the A 104. Take the 'Breitenbachplatz' exit.
Turn right at the second traffic light at Breitenbachplatz. Drive along
Englerallee until you reach Köngin-Luise-Platz. Then turn right onto
Königin-Luise-Strasse.
After about a hundred meters you will pass the "Orlen" petrol
station . Our institute is the second building after the petrol station,
on that side of the street.
coming from the motorway (from Hannover/Leipzig):
Take the Wannsee exit, heading toward 'Zehlendorf'. Drive along
Potsdamer Chaussee - Potsdamer Straße - Berliner Straße -
Unter den Eichen. Turn left onto Habelschwerdter Allee (at the signpost
pointing to the Freie Universität) and immediately turn right onto
Altensteinstraße until you reach a little plaza (Köngin-Luise-Platz).
Then turn left onto Königin-Luise-Strasse. After a few hundred
meters you will pass the "Orlen" petrol station. Our
institute is the second building after the petrol station, on the same
side of the street..
coming from the Hauptbahnhof (Berlin's new main railway station):
Go to the upper level of the station, where the S-Bahn trains run, and take any of the trains going eastward one stop to the Friedrichstrasse station. Here you transfer to the S1 line (go down to the lowest level of the station) and take it southward (end stop "Wannsee" or "Potsdam") to the Rathaus Steglitz station, where you can transfer to the X83 bus, heading westward toward "Clayallee", which stops right in front of our institute (the bus stop is named "Museen Dahlem").
coming from the Zoologischer Garten Station (former main railway station in downtown West-Berlin):
Take the U 9 U-Bahn line (from the lower level of the U-Bahn station) southward to its end stop, 'Rathaus Steglitz', where you can transfer to the X83 bus, heading westward toward "Clayallee", which stops right in front of our institute (the bus stop is named "Museen Dahlem").
coming from Charlottenburg Station:
Go into the Wilmersdorfer Strasse U-Bahn Station, and take U-Bahn line U7 heading toward 'Rudow'. At 'Fehrbelliner Platz' transfer into the U3 subway line that heads toward 'Krumme Lanke'; get off at 'Dahlem-Dorf'.

At 'Spichernstraße' station transfer to the U3 U-Bahn line heading toward 'Krumme Lanke'; get off at 'Dahlem-Dorf'.

Take the R5 Regionalbahn train heading toward 'Westkreuz'. At 'Westkreuz' station transfer to the S45 S-Bahn train heading toward 'Flughafen Berlin-Schönefeld'; get off at 'Heidelberger Platz'. Transfer to the U3 subway line heading toward 'Krumme Lanke'; get off at 'Dahlem-Dorf'.
